Franc recoups losses against euro

After taking some mild losses against the euro during the morning session yesterday, the Swiss franc was able to stage a recovery which brought the EUR/CHF pair to 1.2100 toward the end of the European session. The markets were fairly subdued otherwise for much of the day, as traders were eagerly awaiting any news regarding a possible Greek debt swap deal.

Franc gains on USD as traders return to safe-havens

The Swiss franc moved up against most of its main currency rivals on Thursday, as investors returned to safe-haven currencies following disappointing US economic news. The USD/CHF tumbled following the release of the US Retails Sales and Unemployment Claims figures. Similarly, the EUR/CHF maintained its overall bearish trend.

Franc sees mixed trading amid a return to risk taking

The positive news out of the UK yesterday resulted in a mixed session for the Swiss franc, as it was able to make gains against the USD and JPY while taking losses against the euro and pound. While investors did move their funds to riskier assets, they were unwilling to completely abandon the safe-haven's which helped the franc against the dollar and yen.

CHF continues to gain ground against US dollar

The USD/CHF pair continued to fall throughout the day yesterday, as positive euro-zone news weakened demand for the safe-haven US dollar. The pair has fallen for the last four days, as European data continues to generate risk taking among traders. A better than expected US unemployment figure released yesterday did little to change the trend of the pair, as European news continues to determine market trends.

Swiss data may help CHF extend bullish trend today

The Swiss franc had mixed trading throughout last week. While it was able to maintain a bullish trend against the euro, the currency slipped against both the dollar and yen. Analysts attribute the trends to the current euro-zone debt crisis and positive US jobs data released last Friday. The EUR/CHF closed last week at 1.2147 while the USD/CHF finished at 0.9551.
